Godly Mothers – 2 Timothy 1:5

When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 2 Timothy 1:5 (NKJV)

A godly mother is a treasure that far exceeds choice jewels and fine gold.  Her worth is priceless, her lessons timeless, and her prayers move mountains.  Godly mothers work long and hard, while underappreciated. They go on day by day doing what needs to be done; juggling tasks and children like no other. Their prayers, their encouragement, and their loving scolding help us make it through this hectic life, be successful, and find true life in Jesus Christ.

Godly mothers are always there to comfort their children when life is too much; whether from a skinned knee or a failed marriage, mom is always there.  Lifting her children up fervently in prayer to the God in whom she puts her unmovable faith.  She Weeps when she cannot console them, and picks them up (kicking them up if she must) out of the realm of despair, while always reminding them of God’s great love and plans for them.

A godly mother’s love reflects the unconditional love of the Heavenly Father.  She would soon lay down her life for her children then see them go through deep pain and despair. She goes through great lengths to assure they have every opportunity to succeed in life and be happy. More then anything she prays, hopes and directs her children toward a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 

I pray today, on this celebration of Mothers’ day that you can reflect and appreciate the love of a godly mother.  Let her know how much you appreciate all the sacrifices she has made for you, and all the prayers she has prayed. 

Thank you mom, I love you!

There is no greater gift you can give a godly mother on mothers’ day than news that you have accepted a relationship with Jesus Christ!

What’s on your heart? - 1 Chronicles 29:17

O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You. 1 Chronicles 29:17 (NKJV)

Many times since I have been a Christian, God has put a person, a group of people, or a specific action on my heart.  Sometimes I have simply prayed for the situation or person and other times I have felt led into action.  Looking back now at times God has revealed to me His purpose and why He placed the things He did on my heart; other times I am still not sure what purpose it served, only that I was moved to prayer and action.

When we direct our heart towards God and His will we find ourselves begin to change.  Our goals, our visions, our aspirations begin to move toward God and His purpose.  We start to look at people differently; we are moved with compassion that we have never felt before.  As our heart starts to look more like God’s, things that we overlooked and people that we took for granted before start to take priority. 

So what’s on your heart?  You will find as you edge closer to God that your heart will reflect His more and more.  Use these feelings and thoughts of your heart to glorify Him, lifting up, encouraging and furthering His kingdom.  If someone is on your heart, pray fervently, reach out to them if possible, and allow God to work in their life through yours.  Follow your heart, but only after it is fixed on Jesus Christ!

Are you thirsty? Come! – Revelation 22:17

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:17

Everlasting life, an eternal home in Heaven, a one-on-one relationship with the almighty God, it sounds too good to be true!  These things must be reserved for the best, the brightest, and the most popular people of the world.  I can’t even get into the “kind-a-cool” club; so how can I expect to have all of this.  These things simply can’t be for me; but yet they are.

Jesus Christ, the God of the Heavens and Earth has made a way for all men to be saved, to be redeemed, to be accepted. He gave His life’s blood on the cross so that “whosoever” could come into His holy presence and live.  No matter how we look at a person, good or bad, cool or nerdy, black or white, male or female…they are invited to take of the water of life; Freely! It has been paid for by God and now it is readily available to all.  Are you thirsty? Then come!

The kingdom of Heaven is not exclusive, it is open to all who would accept Jesus Christ and serve Him.  So come, if you have never and take of the water of life; you will find that it is what you have been looking for all along. It will fill you up so that you are never thirsty again. 

But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14

God won’t fit in a box – Romans 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! Romans 11:33 (NKJV)

I seek to grow closer and deeper in my relationship with my God.  He is my savior, my guide, my creator, lover of my soul, director of my paths, cleanser of my sins, and so much more! I was asked the other day in an interview, “Who is God?”; now they did not expect me to define God completely of course, but the question got me thinking that I could never truly answer that question with any true justice.  I know there is one true God; one in essence, while three in person (Father, Spirit, Son).  Yet I cannot wrap my mind around God, His ways, His triune existence, His omnipotence, etc; He is too big, too complex, and too limitless for my mind to fully comprehend.

Although many have tried to put Him in one, God won’t fit in a box! We are experiential and relational beings; we derive our understanding of everything from the information that we have come in contact with.  That’s why, I believe we have a hard time thinking of questions like, “Where did God come from?”, “When was God’s beginning?”, etc.  We have a beginning and we can trace our ancestry back, sometimes hundreds of years, so naturally and logically we try to give God these traits. The problem is that God is not a created being, unlike everything we know and see that has a designer, a former, and a beginning; God simply is, and was, and always will be.  God told Moses simply, “I am”, and later in Revelation He called Himself, “the beginning and the end, the first and the last”.  He is and He is unable to be boxed.

Some men decide that if they can’t explain God or with their logic define God, then there must not be a God.  I say that if they could do those things, they would be correct.  Fortunately for us they are terrible mistaken.  God is; furthermore He is good, loving, holy… the list goes on and on. Though, one of my favorite characteristics of God is that He is personal; although He is such a magnificent and indefinable God, He cares for each individual on a personal level and desires a personal relationship with each and everyone.

Sometimes God reveals pieces of Himself and His being to us, we are given the Bible to study and read so that we may have and grow in our relationships with the one and only true God.  Other times God’s ways, judgments, plans, etc. are hidden from us or beyond our understanding.  My dad quoted often to me when I would ask him a question He could not answer, “Deuteronomy 29:29, Son!”

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29 (NKJV)

 Stop trying to put God in a box; He won’t fit!
