In retail we often joke that the store would look great and we would not have any problems getting the work finished if we did not have any customers. Of course without customers the store would close and we would no longer have jobs. So to productively manage our staff we have to keep the customer factor in mind and be ready for whatever the day brings. We have to always be on our toes and ready to proactively adjust the course of action to meet the goals.
At times in our spiritual walk we become in tune with God and His purpose for our life. Our zeal is ignited and we are ready to swim mountains and climb rivers to get to where we need to be in God’s plan (Luke 22:33 ). We become so focused on the “to-do list” that we tend to forget that our walk is not a peaceful stroll; it is a raging battle. So as we walk along all joyous and ready to face anything (or so we think), enter the resistance. We walk right into an ambush from the enemy; Satan. He too knows God has a great purpose for our life, and he will do anything he can to stop us or at the very least slow us down.
Our enemy is not made of flesh and blood, although people may assist the devil with his deeds; they are but blinded warriors. It is extremely important that we acknowledge our enemy and his power above that of mortal man. We must prayerfully prepare ourselves for the imminent battle ahead, continuing to draw near to God for His strength and protection. Satan should not be feared by us as we are God’s and He cannot take us away nor can He overpower our great God (Rom. 8:31 ). However, Satan is a worthy adversary and should not be taken lightly (1Peter 5:8).
Satan will find your weaknesses and use them against you. He desires to hurt you and if he can disqualify you by marring your witness (1Cor. 9:27 ). He will throw curve balls and he will not play fair. It is at this time that we must realize that he does not attack us with such a rage when we are idle (he has no need to), but when we are following after God’s plan and His will. Instead of allowing Satan to hinder us with his attacks we should fight with that much more fervor because we know that God’s plan for our life is in motion!
Is your Christian walk like a store with no customers, perfectly straight and attractive, but unproductive? Or is it busy and full of daily trials yet fruitful? Are you drawn close to God and ready to face whatever ambushes Satan will throw at you? Make no mistake, if you follow Jesus, Satan will be there to fight against you! Prepare yourself for the resistance.
