Growing up in Eastern KY I have traversed many mountain paths. I learned at a young age that there are two different paths I could choose to follow. On the one hand there are the well beaten, easy to travel paths that most people use. On the other hand are the paths that are hard to find, full of obstacles that less people travel. I often found that the true treasures in the mountains frequently lay off the well beaten path, only to be found by those who were brave enough to venture down those paths less traveled. I find that this holds true to the other paths we face in life as well.
In life we find ourselves following the most popular path. We allow the world to tell us what we should do, how we should act, what we should say, etc. We want so badly to fit in and be accepted that we follow the path that everyone else takes; after all can all these people be wrong? We allow the world to direct our path and then set back and wonder how we got to our current destination. We forget it was Jesus who warned about the broad path that many people travel, the one that leads to destruction.
Jesus told us that we should follow the straight path that leads to life. This path is not the easy path, and often we may feel like we are alone. Sometimes the path markers are obscure and hard to see and we will wonder if we are not going the wrong way. The path itself is overgrown and full of obstacles that may make us wonder why we did not stay on the well beaten path. We must remember that the path itself is not what is important, but where it leads.
What path are you following? Are you following Jesus down the less traveled path? Or are you still back on the broad and easy road that is leading you to destruction? There is no better day to change paths than today!
Pray
Precious Lord, I thank You for cutting out the ultimate path to eternal life through Jesus Christ! I have chosen to follow this path although I know it is not the easiest route, just the only one that leads to life. Help me as I get discouraged walking this path to remember the destination is greater than anything I could imagine. Help me to be a light to others so that they can see and follow the footsteps of Jesus. In His great name I pray, JESUS, Amen.
